Project Full Name: Fostering Sustainable, Balanced, Equitable, Place-based and Inclusive Development of Rural-Urban Communities’ Using Specific Spatial Enhanced Attractiveness Mapping ToolBox
Project Number: 101136910
Duration: 2024-2027
Programme: Horizon
Project website: in progress
Project Description: The PoliRuralPLUS project aims to foster sustainable, balanced, equitable, place-based, and inclusive development of rural and urban areas through innovation, experimentation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The project seeks to enhance social connectivity and resilience, create sustainable rural economies and strengthen the territorial identity of target communities. The project also aims to improve the experimenting and innovation skills of rural and urban actors, promote gender-balanced communication and dissemination, and enhance cooperation and coordination between stakeholders. The project will use a multi-actor approach and data-driven decision-making to develop tools for collaborative analysis of spatial context and system dynamics in prioritised domains, supporting evidence-based policy making and sustainable growth.
The PoliRural+ project builds on the previous H2020 project, PoliRural. The previous PoliRural project developed a foresight-based framework to identify potential future developments in rural areas and promote interregional cooperation and coordination, as well as an ICT toolbox to aid in decision-making processes. The PoliRural+ will build on the previous project’s foresight-based framework to develop integrated rural-urban development strategies and action plans.
Our Role: AcrossLimits is leading one of the 9 Pilot Project. This will be implemented in both islands of Malta and Gozo, engaging local stakeholders in the experiments and implementation of activities related to the pilot. This includes fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among urban and rural stakeholders in the context of the project. AcrossLimits will also contribute to the development of the digital toolbox, which extends on the results from PoliRural (previous project) and adds Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, MapWhiteboards and collaborative analysis and visualisation features.
AcrossLimits will also contribute to the dissemination and exploitation of the project results, will participate in the sustainability and extension of activities in collaboration with other partners, ensuring that financial support is provided to the pilot regions as needed and also contribute to the development of the Rural Attractiveness Index (RAI), which is one of the concepts and applications produced and further developed in the project.
